![]() 01-05-2012 | SIGN OF LIFE I am working on a brand new site. In the meanwhile I'll post some of the projects i did over the last few months. Picture above shows a glimpse of a collection i worked on with Gijs Frieling for Dries van Noten. Next to designing prints for the garments we painted the catwalk (50 m X 3 M!) during the presentation of the collection in the Grand Palais in Paris. Registration here. More pictures soon. | ![]() 16-01-2011 | THE NEW YEAR Too much news for one post. Most importantly i moved into a new studio with the fantastic Hansje van Halem and the amazing Michiel Schuurman , leaving the grand Simon Wald-Lasowski and the superb Qiu Yang. Furthermore Yvo Sprey and me won a Dutch Design Award for the Undercover-serie last november! Picture shown is the backside of an invitation for a show of Gijs Frieling. Site updates soon. | ![]() 07-09-2010 | WELL WELL WELL Found this picture on the web. It was my entry for "Pick me up" in London this summer. It was ment to be a sort of counter-crisis poster, but turned out to be something else. Making this poster was a classic kill-your-darlings struggle. Initially the poster said: "All will be Well, and All will be Well, and all Manner of Things will be Well". All done in this style, quite some work. But after a lot of attempts, i decided to use just these three words, and to write the whole sentence as a sort of subtitle underneath. Well.. | ![]() 02-08-2010 | THE POOR ELITE Yesterdaynight i drew this. I don't know exactly why. But it came out well, and i took this shitty picture with my cellphone. Updates on several projects will be online this week. | ![]() 05-07-2010 | PEACE RETURNED After some crazy months of work, peace returned to my studio. Time for a GIANT update of the site. Working on that now. As a sort of start here are some recent posters for Popclub (which deserve to be properly photographed). Picture above was my entry for the Design Festival in Breda, it's called "Capital A in 21 strokes". Some more good news is that I am participating (with 35 posters) in a show called In Your Face at the Central Museum in Utrecht. Also my man Yvo Sprey and me are finalists for the Dutch Design Awards with the Undercover series. Stay tuned! | ![]() 15-03-2010 | BUSY BEE / LEKKER BEZIG I have been working like a monster lately. At the moment my main activities are working on two bookcovers; one for Hodder & Stoughton, and one for Faber. Next to that I'm doing an illustration project for Viking and custom lettering for Monoprix. Furthermore i am doing cd-packaging for Roos Jonker, and starting up a new poster series for Club 8. This summer I will join the Graphic Design Festival in Breda, a show called 'Pick me Up' in London, and the exhibition 'Beautifully Banal' at the Type directors Club in New York. | ![]() 06-02-2010 | BACK FROM THE DEAD After two weeks of offline stress letman.com is back again. I don't feel the urge to explain what happened, but it was quite an unpleasant experience. The good news is that i made sure this will NEVER happen again. Apologies for everyone who tried to mail me and got his mail bounced back. My mail works properly again too, so for the people who didn't succeed in reaching me the last period: please do so now, and i will get back to you instantly. Picture shown is an invitation for the W139 called 'Doktor Faustus' which I wrote in (my own) blood last week. | ![]() 12-02-2010 | ANIMATED ALPHABETS I discovered how to let them letters dance (animated gifs!) in photoshop some days ago. Making a quick alphabet (3 X 26 = 78 frames) has proven to be quite a relaxing way to end the day. Hope i can keep this spirit running. I'll put some more of these experiments online soon. | ![]() 15-01-2010 | NEWS NEWS NEWS Too much news for one post. Most importantly I joined Big Active for international representation! Also I participate in a show called If You Could Collaborate with my brother Roel. Currently working on several projects, above you can see the most recent one. Made yesterday, and up for publication tomorrow, for the Dutch newspaper Het Parool. It's illustrating a piece on the language Esperanto. | ![]() 12-12-2009 | MODEFABRIEK Lettering for a fashion event called the Modefabriek. Photography by Philippe Vogelenzang. Large updates on several projects before the end of the year. | ![]() 3-11-2009 | THE UNDERCOVER COLLECTION The new (hopefully monthly) poster series for Undercover is called "The Undercover Collection".The idea is to make two paintings (50 X 60 cm) every month with my man Yvo Sprey. This one was rapidly done, and I'm very curious what will happen if we have some more time, and get more familiar with the act of painting. Reproduction photo's by light-master Qiu Yang. | ![]() 7-10-2009 | SOME RECENT EDITORIALS | ![]() 2-10-2009 | VERNACULAR PAINTING Preview of lettering for the book Vernacular Painting I recently made for artist Gijs Frieling. Vernacular Painting presents large mural paintings from the last fifteen years by Gijs Frieling (Amsterdam, 1966), together with a number of small paintings, pieces of embroidery and objects. | ![]() 15-08-2009 | MOMO A5 Flyer for theatre-group Momo.
